Among other changes, I’m changing domain hosts. My current domain host is also my web host, and the web hosting services provided are amazing… too amazing. What they provide is far beyond what I need for this blog.
With Renewal Day for both my domain and web hosting annual plans fast approaching, I did a little research, and despite getting decent info from online, I found myself unable to make a decision. I reached out to a few people I know who have 1 or more sites for advice. Two of the people in question are crafters and sell goods online, on their sites and/on through other venues like Etsy. Two others are author friends of mine, who maintain their sites for social reach, to signal boost their published works. Interestingly, both authors agreed/gave the same advice, as did one of the makers who only sells through Etsy.
WordPress was recommended by multiple people I’d consulted, including one of the authors, who has 3 custom domains for blogs all hosted there, who is also her domain provider. That was the strongest recommendation I got for any of the hosting providers, domain or web, I’d looked into.
Sometimes soliciting advice is just a way to get confirmation on a decision we’ve already made. The anecdotal advice I gathered confirmed my thinking: there’s no point in paying for more than I’m using, or am likely to ever use. I made the decision, and switched to one of the providers I had researched, WordPress.
